Goal: The primary goal of NourishNow, is to empower users to embrace a healthy lifestyle through mindful eating and efficient meal planning.

My role: UX/UI designer.

The Process
Strategic Approach to Search Functionality and Interface Design

I initiated the development of a plan, focusing on both search functionality and interface design. This process unfolded in three stages. Firstly, I delved into user research, examining previous apps with similar concepts to enhance their overall user experience. Next, I crafted wireframes to map out and arrange screen elements and sections for optimal user-friendliness. Finally, I delved into UI design, selecting color schemes and typography while crafting the visual interfaces themselves.

The user research

The primary objective of the app is to simplify healthy eating that offer users a curated selection of recipes. I've chosen to focus on understanding the needs and challenges of two user groups: students and nurses, as illustrated in the personas provided.

Competitive Analysis

Upon investigating user needs, the next step involved evaluating existing market offerings and analyzing apps that align with similar values. The table below presents a summary of the comparison conducted among four healthy eating recipe apps.

Ideation

Brainstorming some ideas for this new application while keeping in mind the primary user problems and goals. Here's a list of essential features I considered incorporating into the app design:

  • Allow users to plan their weekly meals.

  • Enable users to create collections of their favorite meals.

  • Provide users with step-by-step instructions for each recipe.

  • Allow users to easily add or remove items from their shopping list.

  • Design user interfaces that are user-friendly and enjoyable to use.

  • Implement filters for recipes based on factors such as serving size, allergies, dislikes, dietary preferences, and meal type.

Sitemap

To make organizing the interfaces content process easier and more manageable, I used a sitemap. The below image demonstrates the app's main content. Using a sitemap is very helpful to imagine how users will navigate throughout the application before actually designing the interfaces.

Wireframes

After organizing the interfaces content, I started wire-framing. I usually do these on paper but I decided to make them look more presentable using Figma.

Final design

The final design demonstrates a user friendly interaction throughout.

The applications main features are:

  • Users can add or remove items from their shopping lists.

  • Provide the user with step-by-step instructions on how to make the recipe.

  • Users can make a collection of meals and plan their weekly meals.
